The United Nations World Food Program announced that 9.5 million cattle died in the drought that occurred in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.
The drought caused by five rainy seasons has taken a heavy toll on livestock, a vital source of food and income for many communities.
The data from the organization shows that 4 million cattle died in Ethiopia, 3 million in Somalia, and 2.5 million in Kenya.
About 3.6 million children in the three countries have been displaced from school.
According to the World Food Program, it is urgently requesting 2.4 billion US dollars to meet the life-saving food needs of 8.8 million people affected by the drought in the region.
