Ethiopian Athletics Federation President Assistant Commissioner Derartu Tulu received the Gold Nishan Award from the Japanese Government.
Assistant Commissioner Derartu received his award from the Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Shibata Hironori.
They have been recognized for their outstanding contribution in the field of sports diplomacy and exchange between Japan and Ethiopia, for increasing friendship between other countries and areas, for the development of athletics, and for their contribution to national peace.
This recognition and award have been given to foreign nationals by the Japanese government since 1875, according to the information of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation.
